Niche Blog Basics – Backlinks, Content and Trustrank

Blogging can be a pain in the butt if you do not want to spend time ensuring the site is up to standrads that search engines now demand.  They require more and more from a webmaster now, than ever before. Usually, it’s content. Content can make or break a site, and the only real longevity a site ever gets is from unique regular content being added, and Google seeing this happen over a length of time.

You can argue the point that most of the autoblogs out there are spinning content to 30% unique, and they are getting away with page one rankings with Google – but for how long? You really need to add enough content to ensure Google thinks you are an authority on your niche subject, and starts pumping traffic your way, based on this trust. That word has now become a beacon for most webmasters, because Trustrank is well and truly here. Google is now ranking sites NOT just based on their inbound links, but also on their outbound links (amongst other things under the Trustrank banner). If your site has no selfless outbound links – which can link to any site – then your site has less chance of ranking higher. The best place to observe this is on website flipping sites like Flippa.com. You can check the micro-niche blogs that advertise Amazon products. These guys rank up high in the SERPs, and all include Trustrank methods. You will see few that do not have outbound links in their sidebars…

Another big deal over at Google HQ has always been backlinks. You may have seen recently that Angela and PJ’s backlinks have been penalized by Google, and their sites have received a drop in Pagerank. This is testament to the fact that all your backlinking activities should be natural and relevant. Always be wary of purchasing backlinks – it may harm your site if you do!

Marketing your Blog

Search engine optimisation (SEO) plays a huge part in the life of any online business nowadays. There are many different methods that can be used in order to improve your rankings on search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing such as article submission, link wheels and press releases. Press releases are a great way to attract people to your business and give them some understanding of exactly what you do and how you can help them as a person or business. There are also many different ways in which you can do a press release for your company and ensure it achieves optimum results for you and has your website starting to rank quickly. Researching the topic and writing your own press release/releases can be quite difficult to do. There is a lot of work involved and you need to ascertain that you are using the correct techniques etc. to get the job done properly. On the other hand, you can always hire someone to do this for you and pay them a small fee.

You must choose your keywords carefully. You need keywords that people are using to search for your products, but those that have a smaller amount of competition from other businesses. You can get these keywords from most keyword tools or doing manual searches on Google yourself. Once you are settled on the keywords you are wanting to use for your press release, you must begin the writing of it. Insert your keyword to 2% keyword density and upwards for optimum results and ensure that you enter the same keyword into the required fields on the submission forms that you use. The submission of your press release is a relatively easy job once you get the hang of exactly hat it is that you need to do. However, it can be quite time consuming and may be a better option for you to simply write the release yourself and hire someone else to submit it for you. This is a job that can be done for a negligible fee and will help you manage your time much more effectively.

Getting Traffic: The Laser Targeted Buzz

Getting Traffic: The Laser Targeted Buzz

When you are generating interest in your blog, the first thing you should consider are social communities like Yahoo! Answers, and Wiki Answers. Whilst these do not let you post your links right away, you can contribute to them, and eventually your links will take hold. The very best method I have seen with this technique, is outsourcing to a team who will post relevant answers, which link to your site, but only on the very latest posted questions. You can just pay for each time they post an answer, which means you will not need to pay hourly. This will create an initial buzz and generate traffic to your site, being one of the first replies.

The way to ensure you get on the most recent questions, is to do a Google search. You can of course teach this to your outsourcer. Go to Google.com main search page, and search for your one of your main keywords, such as “dog grooming”. You also need to search within the Yahoo! Answers site, so your search would read as follows:

site:http://answers.yahoo.com dog grooming

In the results, you will notice a left sidebar, which asks you how you want to retrieve the search results. You can select from a date range of Past 24hrs, Past Week and so on. If you click past 24hrs, you will see results from just the past day, enabling you to target the most recent questions… and be one of the first answers, thus creating initial traffic. As the answer gathers popularity, more traffic will be sent there from Google, Yahoo! and Bing, because the answer style sites like Yahoo! Answers and Wikianswers are held in high regard by the search engines.

Remember, you only get your answers published if they are not in any way spammy. So either you, or your outsourcers, must make sure that the content you publish is both respectful, and is a valid contribution.

Choosing Your Niche To Dominate & Make Money

Deciding about what your going to blog about and most importantly picking a domain name for your blog is the most important part of starting your blog.  The reason i say this is because you want a domain name that is going to match the content of your blog and also a domain name that is keyword friendly, even better is if you choose a domain name that will have your main keyword within your domain name, this will help the optimisation of your blog and also help with your search engine rankings.

What i do is, first i research the keywords that have less competition for the niche im going to blog about and also has a good amount of monthly searches.  I use Googles free keyword tool:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Simply enter in a keyword related to your niche as below, for this example i will target a niche blog on “LCD TVs”:

Then you will receive the results, on the match type field select Phrase as i’ve done below.  This will put quotes around the keyword and give more accurate results.

Now what you want to do is go to Google.com and see what competition there is for this keyword.  What you want to do is find a keyword that has less then 50,000 competing websites because the less competition for that keyword the more likely you will rank on page 1 for that keyword.

For example go to Google and do the following with your chosen keyword (The keyword I chose from my list was “best flat screen tv” which has a monthly search volume of 9,900) making sure to put the quote marks around your keyword as I’ve done below:

Now once you have chosen the keyword you want to target, next is to search online to see if there is a domain available that has your main keyword within the domain name.

The ideal domain extensions you want are

  1. First option for .com if its available
  2. 2nd option if .com is taken is .org
  3. 3rd option if both .com and .org are taken then get .net

If all 3 extensions are taken then what you can do is add something to the end of the domain for example:

www.bestflatscreentvonline.com

www.bestflatscreentvworld.com

www.bestflatscreentvinfo.com

etc..

Make sure you don’t have any dashes (-) in your domain name and make sure your keyword starts at the beginning.
